About this map
The venues and their links are real. Every URL was fetched and answered
before it went in. Everything else about them is invented — price, seats,
beds, chapel, exclusivity. Drive times are derived from real airport coordinates
by straight-line distance at an assumed road speed; they are an estimate, not a
routing result. Nobody has been contacted and no figure here is a quote.
Only the Douro's boundary is real — the demarcated region as mapped in
OpenStreetMap. It is the one Portuguese wine region published as a boundary; there
is no public IVV shapefile for the rest. Every region's coast and frontier edge is
real, but the lines between regions are drawn, which is what the ~ on
those labels means.
The regions tile 99.6% of the mainland. That is a choice about how the map should
read, not a claim about Portugal: wine regions are not an exhaustive partition
of the country. Beira Interior is its own DOP, not part of the Dão and Tejo that
absorb it here.
